Keen regret was felt, particularly among the older residents, on receipt of the news of the death of James McCrindle, former Glen Ewen resident, who passed away at his Vancouver home on Saturday of the last week. Mc McCrindle who was 74 years old had been in poor health for the past thee years and of late had lived in retirement.
He was born in Ontario and came to Glen Ewen with his parents in t1887 filing on a homestead in the north district where he underwent the pioneering experiences of the early days of this district. In after years he conducted a coal business in the "Glen" where he met the public constantly and was highly recognized as a good citizen.
In 1925 he sold out and moved to the coast, where he resided up to the time of his death. While the coast offered many advantages over the west, Mr. McCrindle always longed for the quiet of his old farm home on the prairies. Former acquaintances received a warm greeting when visitng him periodically in Vancouver. He was a real westerner, hearty to meet and while pronounced in his views, was of a very jovial type and those who knew him well were sorry to learn of his death.
Mr. McCrindle took his place in church activities in a worthy manner and for a number of years was superintendent of the Sunday School in Glen Ewen. He was a member of the Oddfellows having joined at Glen Ewen many years ago and the last rites will be in charge of that Order in Vancouve this week.
He leaves a widow and two children James and Beth and is also survived by two sisters, Mrs Bert Rowe, Vancouver, Mrs Steele, Deloraine Man and one brother John McCirndle of Winnipeg.
