Note: This treasured old photo of Eliza Hargis Strong, d/o John Hargis and widow of Captain Bill Strong, was probably taken in the early 1900s, not long before her death in 1919. She is seen holding a Bible in her hand and dressed in typical dark clothing, which seemed to be common for formal photography, at that time. (Photo courtesy of the late Rev. Ader McDaniel) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ The grave of Eliza Hargis Strong, widow of Captain Bill Strong, is located in the Turner-Strong Cemetery at Little, Breathitt County. Eliza, who died 22 years after her famous husband, was not buried at his side. By then, the Old Strong Family Cemetery, about one mile up the river, was no longer being used. (Photo by David W. Strong, February 1995) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ From an old photo published in The Jackson Times in 1972, we see Eliza Hargis Strong, widow of Captain Bill Strong, with two of her grandchildren: Clarence and Edward Strong. This photo was taken in 1897, probably just after Captain Bill's death on May 9th. ***************************** STRONG, Eliza 81 BREA (D) 07 Jun 1919 (http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kvrp/in/s/t/r/strong.a-j.html)Kentucky Death Index **************************************************************************************** ote (1): Killed while working on a freight boat, which fell on him Note (2): Illegitimate, mother unknown Note (3): A sharpshooter-scout with Company E (Home Guard) ******************************************************************************** Wm/Bub Strong 1/74, s/o Capt.
