Note: y $26.00 capitol. Samuel made his way west and worked on a farm in White Pigeon Mich. for a year. In 1830 when his brother Thomas emigrated, they moved to the English Prairie area of LaGrange Co. Ind. Samuel obtained 160 acres of land in Greenfield township. He worked in the carpenter trade, and in 1836 and 1837 worked as a contractor- builder in Milwaukee Wi. Samuel later became a director and large shareholder of the Indiana State Bank of Lima, Indiana. Samuel also was a stockholder in the First National Bank of Sturgis and LaGrange. His farm grew to 240 acres. Samuel also served and fought in the Black Hawk War in 1832. Samuel's business energies were directed to transactions in lands, and making loans upon real-estate. Prior to his death Samuel owned a great many farms and gave a great deal of property to his children. At the time of his death Samuel was a very wealthy man. In his will Samuel left money to his sister Jane (Burnell) Kellogg, his wife Mary Ann, daughters Jane and Ella, and six grandchildren, and more property to his son John.
