a. Note:   10th Texas Infantry, at Ft. Hebert, Virginia Point, Galveston, Texas,at January 24, 1862; He was recruited at Eagle Grove, Texas, onJanuary 2nd. Pvt. Whitsitt was promoted to 4Cpl. on August 15, 1862. 4Cpl. Whisitt was captured at Arkansas Post, Arkansas, on January11, 1863, arriving at Camp Douglas Prison near Chicago, Illinois, onJanuary 29th. He was paroled from prison for exchange on April 1,1863, then was exchanged at City Point, Virginia, on April 7th. 4Cpl. Whitsitt was slightly wounded at Pickett's Mill, Georgia,on May 27th, 1864, according to the Casualty List of Granbury'sBrigade, published in the Memphis Daily Appeal (Atlanta, Georgia),June 4, 1864. He surrendered as 2Cpl, Co. D, Granbury's Consolidated TexasBrigade near Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 28, 1865. At age 62, Whitsitt applied for a Soldier's Pension at Jacksboro,Jack County, Texas, on August 15, 1899. He wrote that he was unable tosupport himself as a farmer due to being "Disabled, Suffering withCataarh & general debility." As to total worth, he wrote "Dont own anyland. I own 3 cows & calves worth $25.00 & in the aggregate $75.00. Iown (2) horses worth $30.00 each." His application was approved onSeptember 30, 1899. At age 86, Whitsitt died of "Myscarditio" in the home of his son,M. L. Whitsitt at Shannon, Clay County, Texas, on March 19, 1924. Theundertaker of Antelope, Jack County, Texas, took charge of the bodyand placed him in Roberts Prairie Cemetery, Jack County, Texas.
