This area is described in the book, "Carleton Saga" written by Harry andOlive Walker in 1871 as follows: "This settlement was based along the First Concession, Ottawa Front. Itwas originally composed of 27 lots on the Ottawa River and running southto the First Concession, now known as the Ogilvie Road. Due to thewinding of the river the lots varie d in size from three to four hundredacres. Lot 27 is the first east of the Bass Line now called St. LaurentBoulevard. Concession One was divided by the Montreal Road.....Lot26...About 1870 D. M. MacLauchlan sold south of the road to W. The distancebetween Orleans and Ottawa is approx 7 miles (15 km) . That site is nowoccupied by the Central Mortgage an d Housing government offices andacross the road from the Montfort Hospital The interesting item is thatthe tool shed for the government gardening staff rests on the foundationof the old warnock farm house.
