"AUNT ANN AND UNCLE ALONZO" "I will always hold a warm place in my heart for Aunt Ann and UncleAlonzo. They lived in Lower Town in a tiny little house on River Road. Iremember when Dad would crank up the old Chev. and off the five of uswould go to visit them. Joan, Vi an d I never seemed to sit on the seatof the car. We all sat on the floor and watched the shadows from thebright lights of the city flit across the back window. Aunt Ann and Uncle Alonzo didn't have any children and they were alwayshappy to see us. Uncle Alonzo was a great whistler. He would whistle atune, tapping his foot and sometimes he would take down the fiddle andbow and play us a tune. Aunt An n would make the most delicious lemonpies, and I've, to this day, never tasted better tomatoes than what theygrew in their little garden. The vanilla fudge Aunt Ann made was sodelicious. They didn't have much money, in fact hardly any, but visits to theirhouse really enriched my life."
"AUNT ANN COMES TO VISIT" "One day, Aunt Ann came to visit us. This was a very rare occasion asAunt Ann found it very difficult to have enough money to travel by streetcar. We were all so excited when Mom called us in to get cleaned up andproperly dressed for her visit . Joan and I ran down to the street carstop every time we spied a street car heading out to Britannia. At lastAunt Ann disembarked. We loved her, she was so short and plump and jolly. While she visited with Mom and Dad, Joan and I picked her her a hugebunch of blue violets growing all along the Grove road, next to thetracks. Mom made a lovely supper and Joan and I escorted Aunt Ann down tothe car stop for her journey home . We handed her violets just as she wasgetting into the street car. Aunt Ann was laughing and crying-sayinggood-bye. She decided on a last wave just as the door was closing. Unfortunately, the violets were beheaded in the doors. We got a lastglimpse of the blue violets sticking out of the door and Aunt Ann smilingand waving from the front sat."
  Bye for now, Lynn
