Notes
a. Note:   REF: Lynn's notes: Nothing is known about Maria Corry's family. It is assumed that she was from County Monaghan in Ireland. It is also said that she was a "cousin" of Thomas Charles Stewart Corry, who inherited the large Corry estate in Rockcorry,Co. Monaghan, after the death of his father, Thomas Corry, in 1785. If Maria was in fact a cousin to TCS Corry, then their fathers may have been brothers. There are a few Maria Corrys in this family but none who matches ours. I have quite an extensive history of the Corry family written by James Bond of Ottawa. Maria's son, James Prendergast was living at Rockcorry Castle, Co. Monaghan in 1822. Copies of letters written to, and by James, prove that Rockcorry Castle was indeed one of his places of residence, when he returned home in 1818 after serving in the British military in Canada.
REF: "Clarendon & Shawville"-wriiten in 1980 by J. Lloyd Armstrong "The Prendergast family of Ireland is a very old one, probably arriving from Normandy via England in the 12th century. The family is thought to have orginally kept an inn on a road from Paris to Germany and this occupation is commemorated in the name, 'prendre' French for 'to take' and 'gast' German for 'guest'. James Prendergast was born in 1789 in Co. Monaghan, Ireland. Little is known about his father, John Prendergast, but his mother, Maria Corry, was descended from Cornet Walter Corry, an Englishman in the army of Cromwell. The home of Maria's branch of the family was Rock Corry Castle in the village of Rock Corry, near the town of Monaghan. In the early 1800's it was owned by Maria's cousin, the Honorable Thomas Charles Stewart Corry, High Sheriff and M.P. for Co. Monaghan."
DEATH REF: Anglican Archives, Ottawa, Ont.-Register # 451, page 15 Clarendon Anglican Mission Records- M-1303, Vol. 1 "PRENDERGAST, Maria-buried on November 16, 1842, age 87 yrs, township of Clarendon by Rev. D. Falloon".
Lynn's notes-Maria is buried in the 'Prendergast Burying Place' on the Front Road on the farm now owned by Alex Russell. This farm is located right on the Bristol/Clarendon line. This site contains no markers or headstones to indicate the names of family members buried there.
