Dated July 4th, 1884. "On this day, the month of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty four Before me Mr. Stephen Alexander MacKay, the undersigned Notary Public, duly commissioned and sworn for the Province of quebec, residing at Portage du Fort in the County of Pontiac, said Province and Henry Osborne and Mailes Cowley, Esquires, gentlemen- both of Portage du Fort aforesaid, witnesses called for the purposed hereof. Personally came and appeared, Ann McDowell, of the village of Shawville, widow of the late John Armstrong, in his lifetime of the Township of Clarendon, said County and Province, Farmer. Which said Dame Ann McDowell, being aware of death, and of the uncertainty of the hour thereof and being desirous of setting her worldly affairs, whilst she has strength and capacity to do so, requested us said notary, in the presence of the said witnesses to write down and receive her last will and Testament, which she desires to be in the form following, that is to say 'My body, I committ to the earth to be buried according to the rites of my church. I will and direct that all my paid debts and funeral expenses be fully paid up and satisfied out of my Estate and property, by my Executors herein after mentioned. I will and bequeath to my beloved son Robert Armstrong of the said village of Shawville, Blacksmith: All that parcel or tract of land forming part of lot number seven, in the sixth concession of the said Township of Clarendon, containing two acres, and bounded as follows: on the North by the property of Alexander Armstrong; on the West by the land of the said Robert Armstrong; on the south by the property of (line through Hannah Armstrong) of the said Testation. I will and bequeath to my beloved daughter Hannah Armstrong, now living with me at the said village of Shawville, spinster, fille mafeuie et usant de ses droits, which I institate my universal legatee and devisee, all the real and personal estate and property, (tous les biens meubles et immeubles, et effects mobliers quelconques) of which I may die possessed of, of whatever nature or kind, or or wherever the same may be situated and found, without any reservaton whatsoever to be by her enjoyed and disposed of in full property, reckoning of and from the hour of my decease. I name and appoint James Knox, baker, and Thomas Dale, Farmer, both of the said village of Shawville, and Hannah Armstrong, my said daughter, to be executors of this my last will and Testament looking and making null and void all other and former wills and codicils by me heretofore at any time made and entered into, considering them presents to be my true and only last will. This present last Will and Testament was thus made and written by us said Notary, at the request of the said Testation, on the day, month and year first and above written under the number of the aepertory (?) of the undersigned notary, who has kept these presents of record in his office and being by us said Notary in the presence of the said witnesses read to the said Testations, she has declared that the ....(?) contained and embodied her last will and Testament. therefore persisted therein, and in Testimony whereof, the said Testative being requested to sign her name, she has declared in the presence of us said Notary and witnesses she could not write her name and us said notary and witnesses have signed in the presence of each other. seven______words erased are null and void. Shawville Equity- Feb. 25, 1892 Edition "Mrs. Armstrong, another of the aged residents of this village joined the silent majority on Wednesday at the age of 86 years. She passed away at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Samuel McDowell. Among the members of her family who survive her are Messrs. Samuel and Robt. Armstrong and Mrs. S. McDowell of this village. The deceased lady's remains were interred in the Methodist burial ground on Friday morning.
