Shawville Equity-April 30, 1896 Edition "The many friends of Mr. ROBERT ARMSTRONG in this village and vicinity will learn with much surprise and regret of that gentleman's death at Chelmsford, Ont. on Saturday morning last. The late Mr. Armstrong, from what we have learned, had been in poor health for the past two months, but his relatives here had no idea his case was of so serious a nature until the sad intelligence of his decease came over the wires on Saturday. His remains arrived at Haley's by C.P.R. on Monday, and from thence were brought to this village for burial. The late Mr. Armstrong's funeral took place on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Samuel McDowell, to the Methodist burial ground under the direction of Knox Lodge, L.O.L., of which deceased was a member. The procession, led by the village band, halted on arriving at the Methodist church, where a service was held by the Rev. R. Eason, assisted by Mr. Coates. The cortege then resumed its march to the grave, where the services provided by the ritual of the Orange Order, closed the solemn proceedings."
