Shawville Equity edition dated Nov.2, 1905 "Very Sudden Death of Mr. John Armstrong" "About 9:30 on Sunday morning last this village was suddenly cast into gloom, when it became known that Mr. John H. Armstrong had been suddenly called away. Mr. Armstrong had gotten up on Sunday morning as well as usual, and was up doing the outbuilding chores when, his wife thinking his absence long, went in search of him, and...she found him dead in the yard, where he had fallen, a victim of heart trouble. He was coming in from feeding the calves oats. Mrs. Armstrong had been warming his clothes beside the fire preparatory to his going to church that morning as usual. Mr. Armstrong was wellknown in this section, having been a lifelong resident, and highly esteemed by all with whom he came in contact. He was born on *September 27, 1834, being now seventy years of age, and was a son of the late Robert Armstrong. He was one of a family of twelve, six boys and six girls. Of these, two boys and one girl died in their youth. The other nine were: Mrs. E. Hodgins, Mrs. C. Morrison, late Mrs. John Dale, and late Alex Armstrong, of Shawville; Mrs. A. Hanna. Yarm; late Mrs. Wm. Corrigan; late Robert Armstrong, and Frank, of Clarendon. He was converted to God in the revival in this section conducted by the Rev. W. Morton, in 1854, and on April 6, 1859 was united in marriage to Miss Eliza Pattyson, one of four-one boy and three girls-which had come out here previously. These were: the late Rev. Wm. Pattyson, late Mrs. Francis Wilson, and late Mrs. Samuel McDowell. Although never a member of any secret organization he had always an estimable regard for the L.O.A. He enjoyed the celebrations, etc., as well as anyone and was a regular attendant as such. The Funeral took place on Tuesday, at 10 a.m., to the Methodist church, and thence to the cemetery, and was largely attended. The pallbearers were six of the deceased's nephews: Robert Dale, John Armstrong, James Hanna, Harold Hodgins, Hulbert Armstrong, and Harry Morrison. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved widow, cast so suddenly into grief of the deepest."
