His death occurred after a comparatively brief illness, at Upper Thorne centre, where he had removed some years ago to take up residence with his sons who carry on business there. His death occurred peacefully, at five o'clock in the evening after every effort in the way of medical skill and assiduous attention had been exhausted, in the vain hope of staying the destroyer's hand. The funeral took place on Sunday, leaving deceased's late residence at 11 o'clock, thence to the cemetery in this village, and the very large concourse of sympathetic friends, who followed the remains to their last resting place, despite the very bad condition of the roads, told better than any words of ours can express, of the high esteem in which he was held. The large concourse reached St. Paul's church about three o'clock in the afternoon, by which hour the sacred edifice was already nearly filled by residents of the village and others, who although unable to undertake the long drive to Thorne, wished to manifest by their presence, their respect for the memory of the deceased. The usual offices for the dead were conducted by Ven. Archdeacon Naylor, assisted by Rev. A. Elliott and Mr. Baldwin, resident student. Besides many relatives in this section, the late Mr. Armstrong leaves to mourn his loss a sorrowing wife, two sons and one daughter, all of whom have the deepest sympathy of the community."
