Shawville Equity dated August 31, 1911 (courtesy of Barbara Anderson) "Obituary" "The death angel cast a gloom over the vacinity of Yarm, by calling for its victim, one of the oldest and much respected pioneer residents, in the person of Mr. Robt. Strutt, at the ripe old age of 88 years and 4 months. The deceased was a native of the North of Ireland, and came to Clarendon while young. He settled on the farm on which he still resided, from time of marriage to Elizabeth Harrison, also a native of Ireland, over 56 years ago. The deceased would relate many interesting incidents and adventures of his early youth, and the various pioneer hardships which early settlers had to endure. He leaves to mourn his loss his aged widow of over 86 years, two daughters: Mrs. Wm. Emmerson of Bristol Ridge; Mrs. John Connelly, of Caldwell, and five sons, namely: Robert, George, and James of Pembroke; Langford, of Shawville, and John, who still resides on the homestead. The funeral service took place on Aug. 24th, at 10 a.m., at the home of the deceased. The five sons and one grandson acted as pall bearers. The service was solemnly rendered by the Rev. Mr. Dustin, after which a large number of relatives and friends accompanied the remains to its resting place in the Methodist cemetery at Shawville".
Deaths: Equity (same edition as above) "Mr. Robert Strutt, of the 8th line, one of the oldest residents of Clarendon, passed away on Tuesday last. His remains were interred in the Shawville cemetery on Thursday morning. Mr. Langford Strutt, of this village and John Strutt, of the 9th line, are sons of the deceased."
