Note: Certified Copy Of An Entry Of Birth #BXBY439844, General Register Office, PO Box 2, Southport PR8 2JD, Registration District: Stourbridge, Worcester County-- Lists Occupation of George Edwin as a "Hay Dealer." Wife, Matilda Brettell. Residence "Waste Lye." Birth of Noah on May 9, 1867. ---------------------------------------- Baptism record: Parish Lye, Worcester, Eng: July 7, 1867 parents: George Edwin and Matilda Harris Death Certif: date of birth May 9, 1866. Age at death - 83 on March 18, 1950. If this is incorrect then both figures are wrong (age at Death and Birth date). Immigrated to U S at the age of 4 (1871) and lived in Versailles, KY until the age of 14. (See copy of "Declaration of Intention to Become A Citizen", dated Nov 5, 1888 showing Noah to be 21 years of age and stating that he immigrated in 1871, Denton Cty, TX)) Lived briefly in Versailles, KY. Noah managed and worked in a dairy owned by a Mr. Fry. He milked the cows, poured the milk into gallon cans. His wife, Sarah ("Sadie") hired a black woman to come in and help clean up the cans each day. Later settled in Denton, TX. Met and married Sarah Mayer. Sarah and Noah helped to raise her brother Charles Mayer's two sons after his first wife died. Came to Greer County, OK in 1904 and settled on a farm two miles s/w of Willow, OK. They moved later to a farm four mi n/w of Willow which was the family home for many years. Noah was a member of the Ocina School Board in 1933-34. The following article appeared in the May 23, 1942 issue of the Daily Oklahoman: "Family With 50-Year Life Has A Big Score in War Count The fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Noah Harris, five mi northwest of Willow, Greer county, this week turned into a census enumeration of the family's participation in the war. The Willow family counted 20 sons and grandsons who signed up in the first draft group. 10 are already in three branches of the armed forces: seven in the army, two in the marines, and one in the air force. Their loyalty to America is the result of the hitherto unpublished victory of the English over the Germans. Father of the now 76-year-old Noah Harris was an English preacher. Father of his 66-year-old wife, Sarah, was a German preacher (George Frederick Mayer). But Noah Harris lived in England nearly 17 years* before his family moved to this country, which automatically would give the British some slight advantage in their family victory because Mrs. Harris (Sarah) was born in this country. Married May 23, 1892, the new branch of the Harris family spent their first ten years in Texas. Then they moved to their present homesite near Willow where they have planted crops in the spring and harvested them through the last 40 falls. They have maintained their pioneer hardihood and good health, with Harris able to do his own farmwork and Mrs. Harris herself preparing her own fiftieth wedding anniversary banquet for the 51 members of the family who gathered to participate in the celebration. The Noah Harris of the family tree lists nine sons and four daughters, branches of this limb include 42 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren." (The article included photos of their wedding picture and a current snapshot.) *This is an error--Noah immigrated to the U S at the age of 4. ____________________________ Noah Elmer Dudley Harris ("Uncle Bud"), son of Noah, provided the following information: In 1870, Noah (Dudley's father) moved to the U. S. (Kentucky briefly and then on to Denton, TX with his mother (Matilda) and father (Edwin) and his sister, Ann. Noah was 6. (This conflicts with the newspaper article above which has Noah immigrating to the US at the age of 4.) Noah had four brothers and three other sisters; some of whom did not come to the US (unknown reason). Noah married Sarah Mayer (aged 16) and had 7 children before moving to Willow, OK in 1904. They had six more children in Willow, OK. From the Willow Newspaper, abt. March 20, 1950: Mr. Harris was converted and united with the Baptist church at Denton, TX at the age of 24 years and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. He brought up his family in the fear and admonition and love of the Lord. All twelve children are Christians. He was a charter member of the Willow Baptist Church. Those who knew Mr. Harris all these years loved him and had great respect for him. Some who knew him well , knew him as "Uncle Noah."... Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, four daughters: Mrs W W Williams, Mangum; Mrs. Ruth Newman, Birmingham, Alabama; Mrs. John Geyer, Wheeler, TX; and Mrs. Otis Lee, Britton, OK. Eight sons: J. C. Harris, Modesto, CA; Clyde G. Harris, Willow; Noah Harris, Jr., Tulsa; Cecil Harris, Brinkman, OK; Manual Harris, Willow, OK; Curtis Harris, Ok City, OK; Robert Harris, Dallas, TX; and Kenneth Harris, Tulsa, OK. Three brothers: George Harris, Riverside, CA; Robert B. Harris, Denton, TX; and Edwin(d) V(Y?) Harris, Amarillo, TX. One sister, Mrs. H. H. Rose, Minneola, TX. 38 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
