a. Note:   Abner moved from Ohio to Dodge Co., Wisc. in 1849. Rev. Channel was the first minister at Bucks Grove,Ks. He rode a horse or walked from his home south of America City, This was sometime between 1869 & 1879. At the may 29,1874 Quarterly Conference brother Channel was appointed to serve as a supply pastor on the work with brother Brown, preacher in charge. They were to receive a salary of $300.00 each. Further records show that they did not receive their salary in full. He joined the M.E. Church in 1860 as an itinerant minister. In 1885 he joined the United Brethern church at the New Eden appointment. He owned a furniture store in Soldier, Ks and on the 10th of July 1883 , the town and his store was practically wiped out. His mother and sister-in-law were killed. He is listed as a Dr. in the Wisc. Census.In the 1865 census Abner lived in Atchinson Co., Monrovia. Monrovia was a hotbed for Anti-slavery. He was called up for active duty, but the company was on active duty only a few days. He was a Corporal in Co. F. 12th Kansas, Cavalary, and belonged to Havensville Post #144. He was a School District Officer in 1902 03 in Grant Twn Pott. Co. Abner was an "Allopath" This would be a MD now general practitoner .Also in the "Journal of American Medical Ass. Citation" 50:1832.
