Notes
a. Note:   Because William married in Hancock county - 1860 Prairie, Hancock Co, IL Census: Household Gender Age Birthplace David W Gardner M 37 Ohio = also in the 1850 Franklin, Clermont Co, OH census Lovira Gardner F 34 Ohio = Lavina n the 1850 Franklin, Clermont Co, OH census William J Gardner M 13 Ohio Elizabeth R Gardner F 10 Ohio = later marries George Stuart
An interesting note is that there is a David Gardner listed in the "Enrollment of the City" in the Quincy Daily Whig, Feb 13, 1865. Quincy is where William's children were born, in the early 1870's. Back to David, he is in the 1870 White Co, IL census with "Sevina" (sp).
Possibility: 1870 Portsmouth, Scioto Co, OH Census, page 12: William C. Gardner age 21, House Painter, Birthplace Ohio = https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M6LP-ZBP His daughter, listed as Rosa in the 1880 census for Quincy, shows her father's birthplace as Ohio.
The other possibility: 1880 Quincy, Adams, Illinois Census: Henry J. Gardner, Widowed, age: 56, born in England, parents born in Scotland. Henry J. Gardner is in WILLIAMS' QUINCY DIRECTORY FOR 1859--60: ( G. and White), s s Vine b 6th and 7th... This Henry J. is even on the 1865 Quincy census, but no records of him in Ohio have been found.
