Russell Brown was a tall man over six feet with brown wavy hair. He kept it trimed on the sides and let it stand up making him look even taller than he was. He was a very good mechanic and machine operator for his day. He drove busses and operated theshing machines with steam engines. As a small boy I can remember riding on the steam engine when he moved the separator from farm to farm. All during this time he drank a lot of alcohol and finally turned himself into an alcoholic. After that he could never keep a job or bring any money home so he left and went west to Lincoln,Nebr leaving us to starve. At this time I was about ten years old. Mother finally divorced him. Mother and older brother Maurice worked in a bomb box factory during the war and Francis,Irene and I went to school. I don't know how mother kept us together during that time as it was very hard for her. Dad finally came back from out west and hung around Cambridge City or Milton just working hard enough to buy a bottle of wine or he would come to me at the filling station where I worked and take what money I had. At this time I was about fifteen years old. He became sick from drinking so much and suffered many years until his death on 14 Sept 1960. I was so mad at him for the way he treated Mother and us kids over the years that I did not even attend his funeral. I haven't changed my mind yet today. dfb. Russell Brown was buried in Village Creek Cemetary on Alquina Road East of Connersville,Ind. with his father, two sisters and some of his mothers people (Wildridge family). I did not attend by choice.dfb
