a. Note:   Emanuel Krooks was born in 1822 in Scotland. He died in 1910 at age 88 in Wood County, Wisconsin. He emigrated to Luleo, Sweden as a young boy. Later, he emigrated to Woro Wasa, Finland, where he became a court reporter. Eventually, he emigrated to the United States, settling in the township of Sigel, in Wood County, Wisconsin. Around this time, he changed his name to Kronholm. Several of his children, however, kept the name Krooks. Emanuel became a farmer, and was also a deacon in the Bethany Lutheran Church in Sigel. In the absence of a pastor, he often conducted the Sunday morning services.
