Notes
a. Note:   Moved from l'Assomption to Clarence, Ontario.
In the 1871 census, John and Elizabeth were farming 200 acres at concession 1, lot 5, Clarence Township, with 110 acres improve and 60 pasture. They had one house and three barns/stables. There were 7 children at the time.
Founder of the Dalrymple family farm in Wendover; just went by Harold--although in the 1881 census, he is listed as John. Married in Eglise Evangelique Francaise de la Rue Craig, Montreal. Lived in l 'Assomption at the time of his marriage.
In 1881 was living as widowed head of household with married son Robert and his wife Elizabeth Mennie (Canadian census) along with five of his younger children. Although his name is not on Elizabeth's stone, the cemetery records show that he is buried in the same plot. Grave 79-4
By the time of the 1891 census, only John and his son John Jr., 23, were still farming this location. It appears John J. may never have married; he was still farming on the same site, but only 50 acres with a two-room wood house and 5 sheds or barns, and at age 33 he was still single.
A John Dalrymple witnessed Robert Dalrymple's burial in Mount Royal Cemetery in 1875. This is likely John Harold, who lived up the river in Clarence, Ontario, near Ottawa, but there is no confirmation available. Robert's younger brother John had died in 1869, and a nephew John was only 10 at the time of Robert's death.
