Note: !AFN: !SOURCES: AN VERSION OF THE DAMON BOOK IS ON: LDS FHL microfilm 1913323 D. Brad Damon's 60 years of Damon family research & on fiche # 6334620 the (largest)Scituate damon family is indexed; !email 2002 to 2009 from nancie howell willey -- NLWilley (at) comcast.net CITING DAMMAN FAMILY in 1870 algona, kossuth co. IA us census enumerated just after his stepfather in law goerge w griffin, and mother in law rosanna (warner) June Griffin. apparently family left IA oct 1870 and wintered in ogden UT before continuing on to Kittitas co WA in spring of 1871; !- 1870 us census Algona, Kossuth Co Iowa the Griffin family is the easiest to find on census index. Right next to them is mrs. Griffin's dtr Sabina, 2nd wife of Jeremiah Damman; !- WI Marriage Index spellings of names 10 may 1866 Grant County Wisconsin J D Dammon married Sabina June: !SOURCES: 1830 and 1840 census (on his father's notes) show that there was a child of exactly the correct age in his parents' family to be Jerry D. Damon/Damman; His pension record which Ruth Damman has in 1993 spells his name Jeremiah Douglas -- although he was usually called Jerry D.; He was a farmer, but also a millwright and a miller, running mills on both Seattle side and Ellensburg area sides of the Cascades; NOV 1995 GRANDDAUGHTER RUTH DAMMAN B. 1905 REPORTS THAT JERRY D DAMMAN WAS ALSO A REALTOR, AS WERE MANY DAMMANS, I BELIEVE SHE SAID; Vol 2 page 292 History of Pacific NW pub. by N. Pacific History Co 1889 Portland OR: "Captain J. D. Dammon.-- This pioneer of the Kittitass Valley was born in Seabeck , Maine, June 22 , 1825. In 1843 removed to WI, living in Dane and Monroe Co."... 1859 mining in Gregors Gulch,CO but left and returned to WI all in 1859 so should be on 1860 WI census, ...1861 Capt of Co A 3rd WI Cavalry...a few years in WI, a few in IA in hotel and mercantile business, then 1871 horsewagon west, stopping for winter in Utah, arrived Yakima Co 1872,first dtr born in a mountain home ...next summer located 200 acres 2 1/2 miles w. of Ellensburgh, runs stock, fruit, and a gristmill on a race out of Yakima River. First md. to Miss Mary Cushing who died 1865, leaving 3 boys. 2nd Miss Sabrina June md. WI. They have 1 Boy, 1 girl living; 1904 History of Yakima, Klickitat and Kittitas Counties calls him Jerry D. Dammon which corresponds exactly to 1930's Damon genealogy "Jerry D." --not necessarily the same person, but this makes it more likely so; SOME CO HISTORY: I believe says he went from WI to ME in 1843 or 1844 so I am therefore assuming his kids were all born WI, not ME as D. B. Damon apparently gotr from 1860 census; DAMON GENEALOGY: D. Bradford Damon of Wilmington DE in 1993, address maybe be below, published a 1 volume Damon genealogy in 1935, it was in N.E.H.G.S. library in Boston in 1991. Mr. Damon 1993 says he put a 10 volume revision in Scituate Hist. Society, Scituate MA (WITH COMPLETELY REVISED # SYSTEM FOR DAMONS); Mr. Damon looked on 1860 census of Sparta,Monroe Co, WI for much information on Jerry D. Damon and hios brother's families. I instead looked at 1850 census Rutland Dane Co WI. Together the 2 census returns tell a lot; Jerry D. gave his age as 38 in 1860 census Mary J. 26 whereas in 1850 census Jerry D was 24 and Mary 17 Jerry called a farmer both censuses; 1860 census apparently has all Jerry D Damon's kids born in Maine. the 1850 census has him in Dane Co WI with wife and baby. Ididn't copy the birthplace of baby or else it wasn't given on census, but a baby in census prob b.WI; GEOGRAPHY: Sebec town was organized in 1812 as part of Hancock Co which was formed in 1789. In 1816 Penobscot Co was formed and apparently Sebec became a part of Penobscot until 1838 when finally Piscataquis Co was formed with Co seat presently at Dover-Foxcroft, right next to Sebec; SEBEC TOWN VITAL RECORDS, as seen Nov 1991 on LDS FHC Film 0012072: search for record of J D Damman birth in 1825 was unsucccessful. However enough Douglas and Dammon family entries that Sebec may be the right place. 1815: some Douglas births recorded for kids, the oldest of which was born 1794; THE RECORD IS MORE MARRIAGES RATHER THAN BIRTHS: 7 Jul 1822: Intention of marriage: John Dammon,Margaret Wasgart, both Sebec Jul 13/Aug 20/1823: Lucy Douglas of Sebec and Benj Grover of Plantation 2 17 Feb/20 Jun 1826 Rebecca Dammon & Isaac Woodard, both Sebec 1830: the above John and Marg Dammon entered kids births: Mason b. Betty was nice mentioning an LDS film w. Damons, promised the # later, she mentioned a "Damon family" by R. Van Deusen: FILM# 0185436 item 4 , #1486604 item 13 (unconfirmed by me) and said D.Bradford Damon who wrote 1930's genealogy was still alive at 2723 Shipley Rd Apt 109 Wilmington DE 19810-3296 but Maine Gen Soc gave 412 Stratford House 3120 Naamans Rd Wilmington DE 19810; Brad Damon died 14 Mar 1993 Wilmington DE, 26 Mar call from his dtr Dorothy Brandenberger 2407 Lakeside Dr.,Wilmington DE 19810; !email oct 19 2002 from nancie howell willey rewilley@@localaccess.com has researched everything connected to the GRIFFIN side of the family, as that is from where nancie descends, apparently from a child of a previous marriage of rosannah's last husband Geroge washington griffin?; She cites records of Angeline (nee Griffin) G W griffin's daughter, althouugh the other daughter Anetta L. is the dtr nancy descends from; MARRIAGE LICENSE 1869 SPARTA CO WIS SAYS ROSANNAH'S FATHER was S. Warner. had listed listed her maiden name as warnerr, but FAIRCHILD may also be a surname, maybe a previous married name or her mother's surname??; ***************************************************************8 there was an unknown damman relative in 1880 WA Terr named Asa June, but ruth damman only lists sabrina's brother as Leaser June, could be same person though; *********************************************** Nancie (above) says "By 1880 rosannah was in WA Terr...she bought land there and is enumerated living alone, with Asa June, with Jeremiah, and "Sabina", Damman or with her grandson Arthur Damman, consistently, until her death in 1904. She is buried in Ellensburg, Kittitas Co WA;
