Note: !AFN: !BIRTH: etc: The D. Bradford Damon complete copy was received 18 Nov 1991 from KIDS: Abstract of Albion ME records as seen in old record cards in ME archives as reported by Virginia T. Merrill, profes- sional genealogist Box 316 Solon ME 04979, ARE NOT SO COMPLETELY CONFIRMING OF THE DAMON GENEALOGY STORY! Never is Seth Damon mentioned in the births of Damon kids, either just Damon or father called John Damon! "John Damon b. Fairfax(albion) 2 Oct 1801, 1st child of ----- and Margarett (Douglas) Damon, Mason b. 26 Jun 1803 2nd child of John and Margarett (Douglas) Damon, similarly Rebecca b. 26 Mar 1805"; DEATH: 16 Apr 1993 D.B. Damon says somewhat inexplicably that Seth went to Sparta, Monroe Co, WI but that he died in Rutland Dane Co WI. Doesn't make sense because he died around 1850 while family was still in Dane Co, they didn't go to Monroe Co until about 1854; 17 Mar 1993 letter from Betty Demmming of FL says that D. Bradford Damon is still alive 2723 Shipley Rd Apt 109 Wilmington DE 19810-3296; NEHGS in Boston. It doesn't give descendants any further than listed under the notes here of Seth Damman b. 1803/1807. The only descendant information obtained from complete copy is that the crosses (+ plus signs) by the names clearly refer to additional descendants known to the author. And since Seth b. ca 1803/1807 had a plus mark on page 94, he may be the ancestor of the Dammans we're searching ; PAGE 94, 26, 9, 2, page 1 trace the line of ancestry indicated for above Seth Dammon by the above D. B. Damon book; NARRATIVE OF 2 Nov 1991 in Ellensburg,Kittitas,WA FROM RUTH DAMMAN, born about 1910: the most ancient Damman ancestor that she knows for sure is her paternal grandfather, Jeremiah Douglas Damman. So I started this chart with him as number 1 for this study. She says she has more recent people and events completely under control.; SPELLING OF SURNAME: her father's sister spelled it DAMMON, but she reports that the 1850 census spelled it DAMMAN. Apparently the immigrant ancestor spelled it John DAMON in 1600's in Scituate. Plymouth,MA, but were jumping to conclusions too fast there!; JEREMIAH DOUGLAS DAMMON about 1890 in Kittitas Co, WA wrote in a Co. History "mugbook" that he was born 22 Jun 1825 in 'Seabeck' Maine and that he had moved to Wisconsin in 1843--verified by her transcription of 1850 census of Rutland,Dane, WI where in family #250 or 251 we see kid born about 1842 ME and next kid about 1845 WI--this is a Seth Damman family, #250 is, but maybe not her direct ancestor. Possibly from Co. History, and his Civil War pension file, she learned that J. D. Damman and second wife and family came from IA or WI to Ogden UT in fall of 1870, then on to Kittitas Co, WA in 1871.; MARRIAGES: Ruth sent for her grandfathers marriage license information: 1847 Rutland,Dane WI he married Mary Jane Cushing, a witness was an Abigail. Ruth notices that Abigail Damman on the 1850 census wan't born until just AFTER the marriage, so not THAT Abigail. Perhaps from Co. History Ruth learned that Mary Jane Cushing died after 3 sons; 10 May 1865 Montfort,Grant,WI in SW corner of state, her grandfather married Sabrina June by Rev S.L. Lake, whose wife Sarah lies buried right here in IOOF cemetary in Kittitas Co,WA. OTHER INFORMATION: possibly from Co. History Ruth learned that her grand- mother Sabrina was born in 1838 in Brookville,Ont,Canada. Presumably among several kids, her father Arthur June Damman was born Algona,IA and her aunt, who spelled her name Dammon, was born 1872 in Naneum Canyon area of Kittitas Co, WA. Her father at one time ran a sawmill and a grist mill right along the Yakima River. ; CENSUS: ALL FROM RUTH's TRANSCRIPTIONS: [revised from my viewing page 278-283 of first roll Dane Co Census 27Nov91] 1850 Rutland, Dane, WI: Family apprx #170: J D Damman 24 M Farmer ME, Mary 17 F ME, MC 1 ; Family #171 C P Damman 26 M ME Farmer, Abba 22 ME , IC 2 WI, JG 2/12 & with J F Wheeler 9 ME listed as if oldest kid this marriage; Family 250-251 or so: Seth Damman 43 M Farmer ME, Nancy 38 ME, Malici A 13 F ME, G. But as it stands, she would've been 48 years old at his birth--which requires another generation according to current genealogical standards, e.g. Marsha Hoffman Rising's lectures at NGS 1991 convention; BELOW ALL FROM PINK AIS FICHE: (and very quick survey, not comprehensive) WI CENSUS 1850 Margaret in Dane co 283 also Rutland,Dane in 1855, Seth on 282 Chandler 283, J on 278, OTHER COUNTIES: Waukesha: Riley 318, Dodge Mary 233, Lewis in Brown 041, Ann in Jeff co 125-6, maybe 725-6, Daniel in Walwth Co 368, Ann in Milwaukee 256; ############################################## IF above Margaret not ours, then check Monroe Co 1850 ME 1790-1800 (some 1810) CENSUS: 1810 Wiscasset,Lincoln: 158 Chandler, Mason, Joshua, 1810 Hancock John 624, 1800 Lincoln Widow 424: 01000-11001-, 1800 Lincoln Damons or Damon John 5000 it says: 30010-20010, 1800 Cumberland Jonathan 30010-10010-, 1799 Kennebec Pittston John 1790 Cumberland Co Jonathan 1,0,0, the only Israel is in Suffolk Co MA UNDER DAMONS 1790 Wash Co 53: 1,1,3, 1800 Gamalell Wash co 615:22111- 10011-00, also possibly above John Lincoln Co;
