Note: The following is from the Twin Falls Times News Senior Sailor Of Newman's Navy Killed In Air Crash Kirby Newman Jr., the senior sailor of Newman's Navy, is dead. A First Class Petty Officer with 17 years in the Navy, he died in a plane crash eight miles north of the El Centro Naval Air Facility in California. The crash happened Tuesday. Word of his death was received Tuesday morning in Twin Falls by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kirby Newman, 257 Heyburn Ave. , and local Navy recruiters were notified. "This is tragic news. A real shock," Chief Ron Jennings of the Navy Recruiting Service in Twin Falls said when asked about the crash. Kirby Joined the Navy in July of 1947. He got out in 1950 and was out for almost seven years. He and Roberta Baird were married in 1957 and Kirby reentered in the Navy in 1958.
