a. Note:   John Densmore Newman was one of four brothers, the sons of Alexander E. Newman and Laura Perkins. My father never talked much of his father, thus my understanding of him is very limited. My father Kirby Newman did tell me this. "Dad never did drive a car. Well he tried it one time when a car dealer brought a model "T" out to our house and talked dad into trying it out. Dad had never been in a car before and only went places in his wagons. He especially used his light wagon which was a spring wagon, whenever he went to town. Well dad got into the drivers seat after that salesman told him what to do and down the lane they went. Now the lane from our house to the main road was dirt and had a couple of curves in it. When dad came to the first curve he pulled back on the steering wheel and yelled whoa, a couple of times real loud. The car plowed right through the fence along the lane and died in the middle of a pasture. Dad jumped out and walked back to the house telling that salesman never to bring one of those dangerous things to his house again."
