a. Note:   a. After graduation, attended military school, completed his training with the rank of captain in the Italian Army. He married Antonietta Anselmo from an aristocratic Florentine family that had settled in Grimaldi. He entered the Italian consular service and received a post in Brazil. In 1902, he bcame the Italian consul in Denver. He was sent to Trinidad to assist the hundreds of Italians who worked in the coal fields of southern Colorado. In 1919, Italy's king decorated him the title of Cavaliere for his meritorious service to Colorado's immigrants. So large was the area's Italian population that he started a weekly Italian language paper, Il Corriere de Trinidad. In 1933 he retired as editor and his sons transformed the paper into an English language daily papter, The Morning Light.
Note:   Studied for priesthood until he left the semiinary for the Univeristy of Cosenz
