Note: Bernice Aleta Ferguson Bales Bailey died Aug. 27, 1993, after a long illness. She was 91. Bailey was born June 9, 1902 in Mosinee, Wi to Austin and Nellie Parker Ferguson. She married Jess Franklin Bales on April 7, 1921. After his death in 1943, she married Ralph Arlington Bailey on May 6, 1956. They lived in the Seattle/Renton area of Washington until moving to Florence,Oregon a year ago. She enjoyed working with crafts and was particularly known for her creative jewelry making and crocheted hats. She remained active in the Skyway Bowling League in Renton until recent years. She worked as a telephone operator for several years. In addition to her husband, Ralph, she is survived by sons Marion "Bud" Bales of Arizona, Orville Bales of Reedsport and Charles Bales of Florence; daughter Helen Beatty of Bothell, Washington; stepsons Charles Bailey of Lynnwood, Wa.; Roland Bailey and stepdaughter Izora Jensen, both of the Seattle area. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren, as well as a sister, Eldora Crook, of Priest River, Idaho, and numerous nieces and nephews. A son Richard Bales, and granddaughter, Jeannine Cole preceded her in death. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993 at the New Life Lutheran Church, Florence. Burial will be at Pacific Sunset Cemetery in Florence, Oregon. "Found among Bernice's notes: 'My kids Grandma Bales' family was Dutch origin; Grandpa Bales was Scotch Irish and English. Grandpa Frank Bales was born in Tennessee. Della Bales, your grandma, was born in Sedalia, Mo. So all you kids are just good old American Kids. Uncle Bud used to said 'Dutsch Mixture'!"
