17 April 2001 Hi Danell. I was just looking at the information on your Benton Co Gen Web page. It shows Wm, b 1805 QA co MD, as having came from Iowa, while everyone knows he came from Christian co IL., right? Welll- I found a record of the birth of a girl, Caroline KNOTTS to Wm and Sylvia WILSEY KNOTTS in 1845 in MO. I have found no other record of Caroline, so suspect that she died at childbirth or shortly after. But upon talking to descendants of Hancock co WILSEY's , I'm told the WILSEY's of the 1840's in the Hancock co area roamed around Clark Co MO, Hancock co IL., and Lee co Iowa. These counties adjoin each other. So it's very possible that WM and Sylvia were in Lee co IOWA just prior to their trip to Oregon in 1845-46. I'm just starting on Sylvia's family history, but it looks like her ancestor came to New Amsterdam in 1623-24, from Luxembourg. There's a town in Luxembourg called WILTZ, complete with WILTZ Castle. Tom OWENS, my cousin who is selling the family farm there in Corvallis, found a letter from a brother of Sylvia's: Tom (Thomas). He says their brother Robert died in 1875 or 77. The date on the letter is confusing. Bob Knotts [email protected]@qwest.net
7 May 2001 Hello- My mother and I are working on our family history cannot find parents for Sylvia Wiltsey 2nd wife of William Knotts- any info or leads would be very appreciated. I am the gg-grand daughter of Sarah Ann Knotts (daughter of William and Sylvia) through her son Archie Robinson whose daughter is my grandmother, Veda Robinson Pike - whew... Thanks in advance Donna Jones [email protected]@aol.com
12/30/01 Danell, I haven't made any definite progress, but it looks likely that Sylvia was the daughter of WM Henry WILSEY, b 1796, Duchess co New York, and Catherine LANDON, b in Bradford co PA. A Josi White-WILSEY has a website that shows her parents. http://members.aol.com/wilseyweb/wilseyhp.htm Pedigree chart lists Sylvia's possible parents. But it just lists two unamed daughters. No women libbers back then! Tom OWENS, my cousin who just sold the family farm n of Corvallis, found a letter from Sylvia's brother Tom, in which he talks of their brother Roberts' death. This fits in with Josi's information. Do you happen to have an up to date e-mail address for Donna? I was very excited to find another person researching Sylvia, but my e-mail to her was returned. I have found two references to a daughter, Caroline, being b to WM and Sylvia in MO in 1845. But no documentation. And the long term KNOTTS researchers, Emma Jean SMITH, my third cousin, and Betty KNOTTS in MO., have no record of her. So for now I'm of the belief Caroline is either a mistake or a hoax.
