Note: Source: BALTGEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BALTGEN-L] Re: Early Davis in Baltimore Jane Thursby, it sounds like that we are in same Davis Clan. Lets see, the list of Uriah's children: Solomon, Uriah, d. 1808 in N.C., Diana, Shadrack, Meshack, b. 1749, d. 1853; Abednego, Mara (or Maria), Rachel, Susanna (or Susannah), Joshaway or Joshua, William. I still know too little about early Davises. I got a book "Descendants of Uriah Davis" from author George Neil Davis, 110 Davis Chapel Church Road, Candler, North Carolina 28715-9139, phone 1-828-667-3047, e-mail number ndavis999@charter.net. There is a short story on Uriah Davis by Eddie Davis, www.atlascomm.net/ecdavis/q.htm. I think Eddie is a descendant of Joshua Davis, youngest child of Uriah. Joshua was born January 1762 in Baltimore, Md., and died August 1849 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. I think George Neil Davis is a descendant of Uriah Davis Jr. (died in 1808 in North Carolina) I am a descendant of Meshack Davis through his son William. Meshack was born 1749 in Maryland and died October 7, 1853 in Fannin (Dial, Georgia) County. He married Lydia Bentley in Baltimore, Maryland or Rowan County, N.C. Lydia was born in 1755? and died July 15, 1847 in Gilmer County (now Fannin County, Ga.) Meshack's and Lydia's children listed in George Neil's book: Sally, b. 1790 Isaac, b. 1797, Lincoln Co., N.C. Aaron, 1800, Buncombe Co., N.C. William W., 1800, Ashe County, N.C., d. 1869, Fannin Co., Ga. Benjamin, b.? Elijah, b.? Elizabeth, b.? James, b.? John, b.? Rutha, B.? Meshack and Lydia and children, Lydia's parents Thomas Bentley and Hannah and family came to Rowan County, North Carolina from Baltimore, Maryland. After Uriah died in Baltimore, his wife Margaret did not want some or all the children. That is why Meshack, Solomon, Uriah Jr. and Joshua came to Rowan County, N.C. But when Revolutionary War came the Bentleys and Meshack and Lydia took the oath of allegiance to the British. Meshack, Solomon and Lydia's 2 or 3 brothers were loyalists at the start of the war. Later they became the patriots. Thomas and Hannah took the oath to the American side. In about 1790 the Bentleys and Meshack family emigrated to Lincoln County, N.C. from Davie County, North Carolina. I know where Meshack and Lydia were buried in Fannin County, Ga., but I do not know their exact grave locations because of no markers. Note: Rowan County, North Carolina was created in 1753 from Anson County. Lincoln County, North Carolina was created in 1778 from Tryon. Tyron was created in 1768 and was discontinued. Davie County, North Carolina was created in 1838 from Rowan County. Back to your Ann and Marian would Marian and Marina be one same person? Would Ann and Susannah be one same person? If you have any book on the Davises, I would like to purchase a copy.
