Notes
a. Note:   Mae or May Hough, spelled both ways. Brother Asahel Morgan Hough witness at marriage. 1914, January 9 a postcard was sent to May at 169 Wisconsin Street in Huron, SD, from Ruth who said she had received Mae's card and was glad to hear she was getting better. "I have been trying to skate. Sundstrom's dam is sure a fine place for it. This is a picture of S., Mrs. F. and my school, and a few visitors. See how many you know. Walt Koehler was acting up; that's why they are all laughing." There were two hospitals in Huron at that time and perhaps she was being treated for the tubuculosis from which she died. The address is adjacent to the railroad; in 2009 all the old buildings had been removed or destroyed. Ruth E. and Jasper F. Riche (carpenter) resided there and rented out rooms with a laborer and a waitress at a restaurant also living there. There were other homes and boarding and rooming houses in the block which was a block from the downtown area of Huron. Others living in the area were a blacksmith, yardman at lumber company, trainman and wife, and music teacher. There were several buildings with Wisconsin street numbers 108, 111, 136, 139, 143, 145, 146, 147, 169, 181. Brumwell Equipment and the Royal Hotel were to the south. There were also railroad boarding cars for those who had rooms. 1915 Her uncle died on October 22 in Huron. Perhaps Mamie Hough Danielsen was in Huron in 1914 when she received the postcard because she was visiting him or because he had suggested getting some health care there. Her aunt by marriage continued to live there in 1920 and 1930. 1921 Philip Review 26 May page 6 column 6: Mrs. J. W. Danielsen passed away from this life Sunday morning, May 22, 1921. She had been a patient sufferer for several yeas from that dread disease tuberculosis. She had been to the sanitarium at Custer at different times but only found temporary relief. Services were held at their home on Tuesday aftenoon May 24 conducted by B. F. Schultz, a neighboring minister, who had held services in that community from 1909 to 1913. Mrs. Danielsen was one of the regular attendants and also one of the Sunday School workers. A large assemblage was present to pay their last respects to the deceased. The audience sang "Face to Face", scripture lesson and prayer by Mr. Schultz, after which Rev. S. C. Olds sang the song, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", and then a short sermon embracing those very practical thoughts. After the sermon Mr. and Mrs. Schultz sang "I Know Thou Art Gone to the Home of Thy Rest"; also at the close another selection, "Meet Me There." Interment was made at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Philip. 8/1/23 Cemetery Deed: South 12 feet of lot 2 in block 7. May Gretchen Hough was born May 11, 1889 and was 32 years and 11 days. The church of her choice was the Episcopalian. Hough, a brother of Kennebec. Mrs. Charlotte Keliher, a sister of Rapid City, was not present.
Submerged stone on hill east of Doris Danielsen on lot 5 is perhaps hers. S. L. and Lillie Hunt are north of Doris. Ruby went looking for them one time but couldn't find them.
