Notes
a. Note:   Roy attended schools in Nebraska and moved, with his parents, to Elk City, Oklahoma in 1903. (This date from Marie's letter). He got a job as a grocery delivery boy in Elk City, and met Della on one of the regular delivery routes. He worked there quite a while eventually working up to meat cutter.
In 1914 or '15, Oscar and Sam got him to move to Emerson, Iowa and join them in their grocery and meat market. He left them and went to work for Shanner grocery there in Emerson. He soon bought Shanner out and moved the business to the corner. He was on that corner until about 1937. He closed the doors on his business and wouldn't ask anyone to pay their bills, even though there was over $60,000.00 on the books. He felt they would pay him when they got the money. Most never did,
He moved to Omaha and worked at several jobs. Most people couldn't find any work, but not Roy. He managed a country club, worked for some retail places and delivered for Ortman Bakery.
Their daughter, Delores, and husband, Art Peterson, had moved to Buffalo, Missouri some time before and thought Roy and Della should come down there around Buffalo and buy a farm. This was the year of 1949 or 1950. A two year drought ended his farming. He traded for a house in town and moved into Buffalo. He sold real estate for Everton Agency. He worked for them until he retired. He and Della moved a mobile home next door to Art and Delores. They lived there, when he developed cancer from which he never recovered.
Della continued to live near Delores for several years until the untimely death of Delores. She then moved to Houston, Texas with Della Marie where she made her home till July of 1987. She felt time was getting short and wanted to come back to Iowa. She flew back and entered the rest home in Glenwood where she passed away.
