*I grew up there [in Turlock CA] in the Brethren Church, and we knew a Ronk family, the paterfamilias in the 1930s being Kenneth Ronk, he and his wife had two sons, one named Willis. I have lost track of them over the years. Kenneth was a sort of fill-in preacher when one was needed, a pious fellow. The church burned down about 1937 and was not rebuilt, the depression made all the members financially underprivileged. Hal Gibson email 1 Dec 1998 to Don Ronk

*I was just reading some of the back messages of yours and noted one correction for you. You said in a letter that my father Kenneth graduated from Ashland College. Sorry, but he did not. He was licensed to preach about 1919 when he and my Mother came to start school. My Mother had been here for school for one year before they
were married. She returned to California and they were married and made plans for them both to return to college. They did need the money to register for school and Dad had been working for Uncle Herbert to earn the necessary funds for school, but he had not been paid. They left California for school with the promise, from his brother Herbert, that he would send the money to them in Ashland. They were in Ashland but no money arrived. Uncle Willis and Aunt Helen were in Indiana and, serving a church, and they knew there were churches near that were in
need of a pastor so Dad and Mom moved in with them. Dad served in the Berne Ind. church and I think Uncle Willis served the Roann Church. They were there when Ella Mae was born, 1920, and she named one of her
girls Roann. Brother David Willis was born there also while staying there with Uncle Willis so he picked up the name that way. After Willis was born they left for California. Mother's family had a very strong pull and so back to California. I just had to get you some of the old news, some of the rest of the story. (Dorman Ronk email, 2 Feb 2000)
