Continued: CHR: check IGI - Rebecca and siblings are in St. Clement Danes church in London. MARR:DEATH:PARENTS: Given biography of Peter Gardner from 'The Great Migration' by Robert Charles Anderson. Rebecca Crooke, wife of Peter Gardner, was the daughter of Roger & Sara Crooke. The proof of this is the fact that Peter & Rebecca retained attorney Michael Powell to help them collect Rebecca's sizable inheritance. The will and the note regarding Rebecca's effort to collect can be found in "English Origins of New England Families" V.1, pg. 39 & 40. . There is also an interesting anecdote about Rebecca Crooke in Drake'sHistory of Roxbury; he describes Rebecca as a "wealthy woman" and relates a story about John Gore's visit to her home. Rebecca told John that he should get married. John (who was a Harvard student) replied that he figured he would wait for Rebecca's daughter Sarah (whom Rebecca was rocking in a cradle as they spoke). And sure enough, John Gore waited until he was 50. . Rebecca Crooke's baptismal record can be found in the LDS database; this record comes from a primary (and thus highly reliable) source. Rebecca and her siblings are included in the christening records from Saint Clement Danes church in London. My ancestor Elizabeth Crooke was the daughter of Roger Crooke and his first wife; Rebecca Crooke was the daughter of Roger and his 2nd wife Sarah. They had at least four brothers and two other sisters, one of whom (Mary), also came to America; she married William Read as his 2nd wife.If you are interested in adding a large set of interesting cousins to your tree, Rebecca Crooke's probable sister Elizabeth brings you that possibility. She married John Guild, one of the 37 founders of Dedham (the town immediately south of Roxbury). The descendancy of John Guild was well documented by Charles Burleigh in the late 1800s, and the descendancy of his brother Samuel was documented by a John Guile in the late 1900s. However, it is only recently that some of us have discovered the relationship between Rebecca Crooke and Elizabeth Crooke.Elizabeth and Rebecca each had a descendant who became Governor of Massachusetts. Gov. Christopher Gore (early 1800s) was a descendant of John Gore and Gov. Curtis Guild (early 1900s) was a descendant of John Guild. This information from Mike Kelley - firstname.lastname@example.org
