Notes
a. Note: on for Alpine Village in NC to which he was elected)
Grew up in Sandusky, Ohio. Attended college at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Received a B. S. in Business Administration, but more importantly, met my wife (Jacqueline Pierson) there.
From college went directly to Officers Training School at Columbia University. Was assigned to AKA 42 and served on it for two years as Communications Officer, participating in eight Pacific D-Day invasions.
After release from active duty attended Syracuse University and received an M. S. in Business Administration.
Accepted a position as Assistant to the Coordinator of Union Relations at the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. in Cleveland, Ohio. Eventually became Training Director, but in 1951 was recalled to active duty by the Navy for the Korean situation. Was sent to Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida as Personnel and Training Officer.
Was released from active duty again in 1953 and returned to Cleveland. However, we had sand in our shoes and three children (a son a twin daughters) and decided we wanted to raise them in Florida.
Started a campaign to locate in Florida and finally decided on Dade City, Florida where I became Manager of Special Products for Pasco Packing Co. and developed an orange juice dispenser program which is in world-wide use today.
In 1962 was offered the opportunity to relocate to Weslaco, Texas to be Vice-President and General Manager of a new orange juice concentrate plant. We accepted, but were there only six months because of a devastating freeze that wiped out the Texas citrus industry.
Returned to Florida to accept a position as Vice-President and General Manager of a citrus concentrate plant in Lakeland, Florida (Lakeland Highlands Corporation). This plant was bought out by a group of people and I became President of Growers Processing Service.
In 1973 formed a new company (Flavors From Florida). Was a major stockholder, Chairman of the Board, and President. This company sold flavorings and concentrate to people who produced fruit drinks throughout the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and some overseas locations.
Sold Flavors From Florida in 1984 and retired, but am still a consultant to the new owners and handle concentrate sales in Puerto Rico.
In 1983 we purchased a unit at Alpine Village in NC, which we still own, and in 1984 built a home just south of and within walking distance of Alpine Village (near Mt. Mitchell, NC). We live here six months of the year and the other six months are spent in Winter Haven, Florida, as all our children and seven wonderful grandchildren live in central Florida.
We are avid golfers and think our North Carolina area is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Although we own a home here, we participate in many Alpine Village activities. Among our children, brothers, sisters and other relatives we own ten weeks at Alpine Village.
We are active in the community -- Jackie is Past-President of the Ladies Golf Association and I am the current President of the Men's Golf Association [both at the Mt. Mitchell Golf Club]. I am a Past-President of Mount Mitchell Lands West Homeowners Association and am currently Chairman of the Board.
We love it here and want to do everything we can to keep it the beautiful spot it is.
