Note:   NS096001 NS096003
Publication:   Provo, UT, USA: The Generations Network, Inc., 2004

a. Note:   NI0146
Note:   From Goodspeeds Biography of Wayne Co Tenn : John Jackson, presumed father of William Jackson, moved to Wayne Co Tenn 1822, William would have been about 6 yrs. John A Jackson, Son of John Jackson married a Skillern, said to have been born in Bledsoe Co Tenn, so William Jackson possibly born Bledsoe Co. ______________________________________________________________________
Wayne Co Tenn 1840 Census shows a William Jackson age20-30 with one son under 5 and no daughters, and a wife 15-20. The ages fit. Son possibly fails to survive. _______________________________________________________________________ Izard Co AR 1850 Census shows WIlliam and Nancy with three children, Leroy age 1. ______________________________________________________________________
Izard Co AR 1860 Census shows that Martin Staggs Age35, living in Jackson household, along with George Staggs, age 41 and CC Staggs, age 4. These are probably kin to Nancy. Leroy Jackson's death certificate says his mother Nancy's maiden name was Staggs, born Wayne Co Tenn. The Jackson-Staggs connection leads to Wayne Co Tenn. ______________________________________________________________________
Izard Co. AR 1870 shows Nancy Jackson living as widow with children. No William. Death between 1860 and 1870. _______________________________________________________________________ Arkansas Research Inc (Desmond Allen) abstracts of Records shows a land patent for William Jackson of 120 acres parts of Section 10 & 15 Township 17N Range 10W. The Patent Certificate was issud 30 Sept 1873. Copies of Application requested from National Archives 6 Mar 2006.
Abstracts of Tax records show WIlliam Jackson paid taxes on this land 1858-1861 but Nancy Jackson paying taxes 1865 and 1866 (Tax records after 1866 burned). Tax records from 1862-1864 are absent (Civil War).
This supports a conclusion of a land grant initiated by WIlliam Jackson but interrupted by Civil War during which he died. ______________________________________________________________________ From Jayme Anderson at
"On Feb 25, 1878, Martha Jackson, daughter of William Jackson, sold 136 acres of land for $140. This was land she inherited from her father. We feel that she sold this land to help raise money to get her husband James Staggs out of prison." ______________________________________________________________________ Copies of Land Patent from National Archives show that the original land patent of 1857/1860 was defective and was reissued in 1873 and sent to John C Claiborne of Salem, Fulton, AR. JC Claiborne was a lawyer, listed in 1880 census age 66. From Ancestry One World Tree:
