Note: YORK, Maine -- The Rev. Beverley D. Tucker, 81, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at home. He was born Aug. 25, 1925, in Shanghai, China, the son of Dr. Augustine Washington Tucker and Annie Webb Cheshire Tucker. He was a graduate of Groton School with the Class of 1943, Harvard College Class of 1949, and Virginia Theological Seminary Class of 1952. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in 1952 and as a priest in 1954. He was a missionary to the Japanese Anglican Church from 1953 to 1992, during which time he was the rector of St. Michael's Church, Sapporo, from 1954 to 1969 and later of churches in Kyoto. While in Kyoto, he was a professor at Bishop Williams Seminary and Doshisha University from 1972 to 1992. Beverley and Jean Evelyn Morris were married in Sapporo in 1959. Bev and Jean retired and moved from Japan to York in 1992, where Bev had often visited his cousin, Winthrop Lee. In addition to his wife, Jean, Bev is survived by his sisters, Annie Wise of Virginia, Maria Webb of Tennessee and Elizabeth Eddy of New York; two daughters, Jane Tucker and her husband, George Gilliland, of New York and Frances Tucker of Massachusetts; and a son, Jonathan Tucker and his wife, Laurie Caldwell, and their son, Augustine Tucker of Texas. SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in St. George's Episcopal Church. --- Portsmouth Herald, 15 Mar 2007
