a. Note:   Francis G. "Jake" Walter, 81, of Leeper, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Clarion Hospital. Born Sept. 28, 1914, in Leeper, he was a son of William A. and Della Huling Walter. During World War II, Mr. Walter served in the U. S. Marine Corps with the third Marine Division in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1977 from the park foreman position at Cook Forest State Park. Mr. Walter enjoyed golfing and bowling and was a North Carolina basketball fan. He was married in New York July 1, 1935, to Julia Hirst Bostaph, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Judy) Fitzgerald of Leeper and Mrs. Ron (Diane) Schrecengost of Corry; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Walter and Donald Walter; two sisters, Charlotte Wolfe and Geraldine Troke; and a great-granddaughter, Heather Colleen. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Borland Funeral Home in Leeper. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Good Shepherd United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Harry, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Tylersburg Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church or to the Farmington Area Ambulance Service.
