Warren County, NC, Abstracts of Wills, 1845-1902- EDWARD ALSTON - 12 Feb 1856 - Aug Ct. 1856 - Orig. WB 49/51 ons NICHOLAS F. ALSTON, ALFRED ALSTON & WILLIAM T. ALSTON- all Negroes heretofore put in their possession, in order to confirm deeds of gift to them- Son EDWARD ALSTON- Negroes BOB, CAESAR, JESSE, GEORGE, STEPHEN, HENDERSON, JO, ALBERT, WINNY & child MINERVA, REBECCA, ANN, PATSY, RACHEL the younger, PENNY, SERENA, JOHN, LEWIS & ANCILLES, as well as half of the proceeds from crop of tobacco & wheat. Son EDWARD - until the death of my wife, I give him land in Franklin County, containing about 836 acres, being the balance of the tract bought by JOSEPH J. WILLIAMS, of which I gave 1933 acres to my son ALFRED by deed. After the death of my wife, I give my son EDWARD ALSTON the tract where I now live. After the death of my wife, I give my daughter MARY D. ALSTON the land in Franklin County containg 831 acres. Daughter MARY - Negroes ADELINE, CHERRY, & SOPHIA. Son WILLIAM T. ALSTON - Negro SUSAN & all money already given him. Grandson EDWARD ALSTON (son of the said ALFRED ALSTON) - Negro LEONIDAS. Balance of Negroes to be kept together until my daughter MARY is twenty-one of marries, when she may take a 1/3 share. At that time my wife may take half the slaves, and the rest divided between my children. Wife MARTHA H. ALSTON - life estate in the land where I now live. Residue of estate to wife. -- In 1880 Warren Co., Fork Twp, Image 19, household 154/155, 5 houses away from CAESAR & ALICE ALSTON, lived EDWARD ALSTON, age 46, who was the son who received the above named slaves. Now, the family of EDWARD ALSTON & MARTHA DAVIS, the above slaveowner who died in 1856, was the son of THOMAS W. ALSTON, d. 1809, who had sons named NICHOLAS, ALFRED, EDWARD,& HUBBARD ALSTON. THOMAS W. ALSTON was the son of PHILLIP ALSTON (1706-1784) & WINNEFRED WHITMELL (1729-1795), who had children WILLIAM, THOMAS W., ELIZABETH, WINEFRED, PHILLIP GUSTON, & SAMUEL ALSTON.
