a. Note:   ose analysis of all of their records have now made me realize that they were 2 separate individuals. JAMES T. ALSTON was married first to an UNKNOWN woman during slavery, who was the mother of his son, MAJOR T. ALSTON. JAMES remarried in 1880 to PITSY ALSTON, and MAJOR T. ALSTON was living with him, but none of their records indicate exactly who MAJOR's mother was. JAMES TEXAS apparently died by 1897 as indicated on MAJOR's marriage record which said that both of his parents were dead.
