a. Note:   JOSEPH GREGORY, Jr. Second son of Joseph and Ann. Did emigrate with the family. Born in England October 9, 1815 and baptized at Saint John the Baptist�s Church on December 26, 1817. Joseph, Jr. did not accompany the family to Ida in 1832 and is not listed in the 1840 Massachusetts Federal Census. It is possible that he was living with another family at this time, learning the trade of a tailor. One descendant believed that he may have been indentured.
 He married Jane Charlotte Root (born 1818, New York) in about 1838 at Saint George�s, New York. This marriage was probably opposed by the Root family as the union was evidently an elopement. Some religious differences between the families have been recounted.
 Joseph, Jr. eventually opened a tailor shop in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, that burned the day after an insurance premium was due. The shop was rebuilt but was really never successful again. Joseph, Jr. and Charlotte had at least two children, Kate Root and William Coleman. Joseph, Jr. died on December 24, 1897 at Pittsfield. Charlotte died at Pittsfield on January 19, 1895.
