Note: The first reference to the Mathews family, its connection to the Strong Family and the connection to the Brewsters was found in a letter from Paul H. Marx to Edward S. Gregory Jr. on November 25, 1972. This letter contained an genealogical chart and copies of old photographs.
There was a comment on the chart that indicated a connection to the Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower. Research indicated that this statement was incorrect and that the relationship was actually to the Rev. NATHANIEL BREWSTER who was also an early Puritan emigrant.
The genealogical chart has ben used for much of the information on the MATHEWS line contained in this document.
