Notes
a. Note:   In the 1852 Census, 24 year old WHP was listed as residing in Cheddington, Bucks and described as a School master. He was, at the time of the census, living as a lodger with the schoolmistress at Cheddington although he had been born in Oxford.
Charlotte`s father was a agricultural labourer and carter and Charlotte was a `Plaiter`, therefore, the marriage between WH and Charlotte would seem to be a social mismatch as a schoolmaster would be a locally respected figure much higher up the social scale than a labourers daughter. With this in mind, it would probably have been what can be described as a love-match.
WIlliam was not listed as being in Cheddington at the time of the census although his family were.
In 1864 he was listed in Bucks Post Office directory as a shopkeeper but was not listed in 1869 in Kelly`s Bucks directory. Earlier Buck`s directories ( Musson & Craven 1853 and Kelly 1854) do not show W.H.P. at Cheddington although they do refer to a National School in the village.
William died at the age of just 42 on the 2nd of June 1867. His death certificate gave the cause of death as `spinal disease and paralysis - some years- exhaustion.`
