Note: At the time of his marriage in 1872 he was a railway policeman but his address was not described as Cheddington but Kilburn (in Middlesex?) and when eldest son William was born - listed in 1881 - as Albert Road in Kilburn.
Also states in 1881 that place of birth was Ulverston in Gloucester(?).
On the birth of his son Hayward Joseph he was a telegraph signalman.
In 1881 census HJ was 28 and was living in a cottage in Cheddington and was still a signal man. Also present were his wife Ellen(28), children William J. (6), Hayward Joseph (5) and Nellie Nora (3). The boys were described as `scholars` and would have attended the National School which still stands and is part of the current day primary School.
In 2001 HJ had moved to 33 Blandford Street, Beckenham near Sevenoaks in Kent and his job was defined as a railway servant. He lived with his wife Ellen. None of his children were living there at the time but Hayward Joseph Jnr was living next door at No. 32.
