  There were two mine owners in the general area, Joseph Pease who lease mining rights at Codhill in Hutton in 1853 and Bates & Baring (Weardale Iron Co.) who lease Belman Bank area from Robert Chaloner from 1854.
  Many miners who came to the area in the period from 1850 to 1870 were from agricultural areas where wages were depressed. 6-1/2% of the miners in the area in 1861 were from the South of England. In 1873 as many as 1600 Guisbro men and boys were working in the mines.
  Most of the mies were drift mines, accessed by means of a gradual shaft and by which ore was brought to the surface, the wagons being hauled by ropes. The men worked in pairs, using hand-operated drills. Many close friendships were formed.
  By 1861 many mines were closing, including the one in Codhill and many peopoe left for Canada and Australia.
  In 1876 and 1877 there were epidemics of scarlet fever in the area.
  At the time of the 1920 census, Charles was a lamp trimmer in a coal mine. They rented a coal company house in Precinct #1, East Bethlehem Tounship.

Fullick purchased from Thomas Mellon, recorded 7 June 1886 - vol 136,Page 353 - Charles A. fullicked on 22 April 1886 purchased for $300 3 lots numbered 299, 300, 301 in plan of lots laid out by Francis A. O'Hara, Robinson Township, WA Co., PA. From Fannie Street, at the corner of Lot 302, east 120 feet to Ada Street, north on Ada Street 75 feet and West 120 feet. Recorded 7 June 1886.
  The porperty was sold in 1893 - From deeds at Washington County Courthouse - vol 183, Page 266-268. Property purchased from Thomas and Sarah Mellon on 22 April 1886 was sold by Charles A. and Margaret A. Fullick on 26 October 1893 to Hugh Robertson. Margaret Fullick signed with an "X". Mortgagor Charles A. Fullick, Elizabeth Cook, Vol 14, Page 260.
