a. Note:   The following excerpt is copied word for word from a study done by C. St. C. Staynor of Halifax, Nova Scotia in December 1950.
  He joined the Halifax fire insurance Co. before 1873, became secretary of this Co in 1885, and continued as such until his death. He was 50 years a member of St Marks Church where he had held all the offices open to a layman. For years he was Secretary of the Halifax Agricultural Society, and prominently connected with the Nova Scotia Poultry Association. The Halifax directories of 1872-3 and 1874-5 show him as a bookkeeper, living at 10 Compton Av., west side Common, Halifax. In 1883-4 he is listed as a clerk living at the N W Arm, and in 1886-7 he is Hfx Fire Ins Co living at 10 Crompton Ave
