Note: Born in a small two story house on Edinburgh St. Halifax, next door to his grandfather Goudge's larger lot which was bounded by Edingurgh St, Windsor St. and Almon St. He moved out to a farm in Sackville, two and a half miles from Bedford at the age of 2. They had a man to work on the farm, and his wages were one dollar a day. The winter of 1905 was known as the winter of deep snow and they ran out of firewood. Since it was impossible to get into the woods to cut hardwood they had to burn green spruce (softwood). His mother passed away unexpectedly the next year when his father was at work in Halifax, so and he and his sister moved to his grandfathers home in Halifax, and were cared for mostly by his uncles and aunts. He studied agriculture for 2 years, then studied to become a minister. Each summer he worked on a student mission field including Mount Uniacke, Brockway N. B., Riverside N. B., Kouchibouguac N. B., Harrington Harbour Labrador and Carruthers Saskatchewan. Once ordained he served at Ingonish N.S., Murray Harbour P.E.I., Noel N.S., Glenholme N.S., Taymouth N.B., Pownal P.E.I., and Winsloe P.E.I. During the second World war he served as part time Chaplin at the Army camp in Debert N.S., and later as Chaplin In the Charlottetown Hospital. When living in Noel he organized a couple of plays (including H.M.S. Pinafore) and they performed in Noel and several other communities. He also enjoyed growing vegetables and flowers, and kept a couple of cows while living in Glenholme.
