Note: Various records show Josiah Hart's birthdate as february 12 & 22nd, 1740, 1741 and 1742. Josiah refused to take up arms against England in the American Revolution, and, according to family tradition had his property taken away from him for being a disloyal person. In 1783 he and his wife and all 9 children left Connecticut, and came to Nova Scotia, settling in Manchester, Guysborough County. Loyalists were able to make claims to the British Government and be compensated for loses such as he had suffered, but no such claim by the Hart family is on file.
