Note: William John Alais was an engraver like his father. His first known success, "Can't you Talk?" from a painting by George Augustus Holmes, came in 1877. He also did a Book Illustration, a woman sleeping in a chair with 3 angels hovering above her. Alfred used the English line, mezzotint and stipple methods of engraving.
