a. Note:   This individual is listed as William R. in the 1850 census for Winn ReAd at 15 years old or 10 years younger than brother Timothy. In 1860 an R. Reed is living with brother Timothy and family and with a 10 year difference, but both ages being off by about 2 years. In 1870 Royal is adjacent to brother George, but with a big age difference (11 years instead of 2). In 1880 Royal is adjacent to Timothy and Winn and age is about correct again. From this progression, I would conclude that William R. of the 1850 census is in fact William Royal and he started to use the name Royal when he matured.
