Booth. Heenlisted in Elbert County, Georgia, 21 November 1814 and was honorablydischarged at Fort Hawkins on 28 April 1815. CENSUS: Lewis is first found in the 1820 GA Census, Madison County.Lewis' age at this time is listed between 26-45. The following arealso living in his household: 1 male and 2 females under 10, 1 maleand 1 female between 10-16, 1 female 16-26. Listed right before Lewis on the 1820 Census is a Mapasiha Cape, whichis the oldest female listed, age 26-45. There is only one otherperson living in this household, a female between 10-16. Lewis Cape, J.P., is a witness to a deed in Henry County 1 September1835. Linsey Cape is selling Land Lot 349, 3rd District, 2nd Section(40 acres) to Jesse Green for $50. CENSUS: Lewis is now living in Henry County, GA (page 328) in 1840.Seven people now live in his house. Lewis is now between the ages of50-60. The oldest female, which would be Elizabeth, is 60-70. Othersinclude: 1 male and 2 females 10-15; 2 females 15-20. MILITARY: On 21 March 1850, Lewis applied in DeKalb County, GA, for abounty land claim of 80 acres for a soldier who served in the UnitedStates military. At this date (20 Feb 1995), it is not known whatland he received. Nathan Cape and William M. Hill (or Will) signed aswitnesses. (Further research needs to be done on this.) CENSUS: Lewis is found in the 1850 GA Census, Casey District, DeKalbCounty, Reel 67. Lewis is 60, a farmer, and lists his birthplace asNorth Carolina. Elizabeth is also 60 and born in North Carolina. Theylist three females living with them, all born in Georgia: Dicippa, 26, idiotic Nancy, 30 Clementina, 24 CENSUS: As of this date (20 Feb 1995), I have not been able to findLewis Cape nor his son James Russell Cape in the 1860 GA Census. Sofar I have searched the entire counties of DeKalb and Fulton inGeorgia. CENSUS: Elizabeth is found in the 1870 GA Census, PanthersvilleDistrict, DeKalb County, Reel 147, Page 248. Elizabeth is 80, keepinghouse, and lists the value of her personal estate at $250. Thiscensus has Elizabeth's birthplace listed as Georgia. She lists fivepeople living with her, all born in Georgia: Nancy, 50, at home Dicy, 44, at home Louisa, 22, at home Mary M., 9 Octavus, 5, (the only male) At this date (20 Feb 1995), I'm not sure who Louisa, Mary M., andOctavus are related to. (More research needs to be done.) MILITARY: On 2 January 1872, Elizabeth Cape completed a "Form of aDeclaration, to be made by the widow of a deceased person who has nothad a land warrant, or made a declaration therefor." Her residence islisted as seven miles south of Cross Keys, Panthersville District,DeKalb County, Georgia. She also lists her age as 90, but in the 1870census her age was listed as 80. John Bird and Walter Wadsworthsigned as witnesses. Elizabeth did receive a widow's pension of "eight dollars per month,from February 14, 1871." This was found on a "Brief of Claim for aWidow's Pension" dated 28 June 1872.
