The book states that "the Sewards are an oldand prominent American family. W. C. Seward was a cousin of Secretaryof State Seward, of President Lincoln's cabinet, and ElizabethWindsor, mother of W. C. Note: Wednesday, Oct 18, 1911, p. 6, Volume XXVII, Number 9916, as follows: "Watson Seward Dies Funeral on Tuesday The funeral of Watson Clark Seward, 82, who died Sunday at the home ofhis son, Freeman Seward, in Glencoe township, was held Tuesday morningat Quito. The Rev. C. E. King of Leon, conducted the services. Mr. Seward was a prominent and highly respected citizen of southeastButler for many years." Then on Friday, October 20, 1911, the following is found on the frontpage of "The Advocate," Volume XXII, Number 19: "Died at the home of his son Freeman Seward, near the Baptist churchin Glencoe township, Sunday October 15, 1911, of valvular heartdisease, Watson Clark Seward, aged 82 years, 4 months and 22 days. Thefuneral was held from the home Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. conducted Rev. C.E. King of Leon and he was laid to rest in Quito cemetery." Watson's death certificate also gives his cause of death as valvularheart disease. R. G. Cabeen attended Watson from 24 Sept 1911 to 15Oct 1911, the date of his death. The personal information was givenby Watson's son, F. W. Seward of Leon, Kansas. Watson's birthdate was23 May 1829 and his birthplace was Butler Co., Ohio. Marital statuswas listed as divorced. Watson's occupation was given as retiredsteer farmer. The name of his father is listed as Samuel Seward, whowas born in Virginia.
