Note: Addendum, Frank's middle name is given as Nathan and his birth date as8 Aug 1868 in Wuseon, Fulton Co., OH. The following notes were taken by my brother, Paul Allen Seward, as heinterviewed our grandmother, Erma Hazen Lee Fruits. "My dad (Frank Hazen) worked in a Swede plant in Kansas City thatwould only hire Swedes. He was 10 years older than my mother. Hehelped build the levee at Hannibal, Missouri (used mules). My fatherdied at 61, heart condition. His sister in Oregon, whose husband wentcrazy. Bulldog bit him as he attempted to kill her, saved her life.Frank Hazen's grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War." In notes written by me taken while listening to Virginia Petty(Frank's granddaughter) in December of 1992, Virginia stated that"Grandpa Hazen worked with Grandpa Boggs."

Note: Reporter" dated Wednesday, February 1, 1933, pp. 1, 4. "Death Takes Four Within Few Hours in Independence Death struck four times within ten hours in Independence between 5o'clock yesterday afternoon and 3 o'clock this morning. The grimreaper in his unusual activity cut life spans varying from but two andone-half to 82 years. All the victims were masculine. ... Frank Hazen Frank Hazen, 63, for 35 years a resident of Independence, and citymail carrier here for 20 years, died of heart trouble this morning at1:06 o'clock at his home, 701 Edison street, after an illness of threeyears. Mr. Hazen was forced to resign from the postal service threeyears ago because of ill health, but his condition became serious onlytwo weeks ago. He was born August 8, 1869, at Michigan City, Indiana. He came toIndependence in 1897 and was married here to Miss Nona Boggs, July 4,1899. He had been a member of the First Christian church for 15years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Nona Hazen; two daughters, Mrs. J. C.Freeman of Wayside and Mrs. Ernest Lee of El Dorado; one brother, BertHazen of Glendale, Calif., one sister, Mrs. Harry Cook ofIndependence; one step-brother and one step-sister, Glen Allen andMrs. Lafe Shadley of Independence; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Webb chapel Thursday afternoon at3:30 with the Rev. Theodore B. Dunton in charge. Interment will bemade in Mount Hope cemetery. All Royal Neighbors are asked to attend the funeral services ofNeighbor Hazen's husband." According to Frank Hazen's death certificate, he died from chronicmyocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle. Dr. O. E.Robinson attended Frank from 5 January 1933 to 31 January 1933. Frankdied at 1:00 a.m. on 1 Feb 1933.

Theodore B.Dunton of the First Christian church, was in charge of the services,and pallbearers were city mail carriers, friends of the deceased: A.W. Cordes, Frank Harper, Ed Harper, Roscoe Snow, Les Perkins, and N.L. Barnes."

Frank is a farmer of a general farm whorents his farm. Nona is 29 and married to Frank for 10 years. She isthe mother of two children of which both are living. Nona and herparents were born in Illinois. (In 1900, Nona listed her father'sbirthplace as North Carolina.) Pearl is their oldest daughter, age 9,and born in Kansas. Erma is their youngest, age 6, and born inOklahoma.

Note: 601 South Sixth Street in Montgomery County, KS. Frank is 48, born inIN, and a mail carrier for the post office. Both his parents wereborn in OH. Nona is 39 and born in IL as were her parents. Theirdaughter Erma is 15, born in OK, and attending school. Also living atthis address is Pearl and T. O. Kent. Pearl is Frank and Nona'soldest daughter. T. O. is 20, a laborer in a glass factory, and bornin AL as were his parents. Pearl is 19 and born in KS. There isanother family also living at this address, Effie and C. W.Cavenau(?). C. W. is 25, a laborer at a sash and door company, andborn in the U.S. Effie is 18 and born in KS. At this date, 29 June1998, it is not known who Effie and C. W. are. Maybe this is anapartment as it is noted on the census that all three families arerenting.
