Note: Sunday, January 11, 1942. "D. I. Melton, Oil Salesman, Dies at the AGe of 74 Resident of Atlanta Almost 50 Years Succumbs. D. I. Melton, 74, salesman for the Gulf Refining Company for more than30 years and a resident of Atlanta for almost 50 years, died yesterdayat his residence, 1002 Lawton street, S. W., after an illness ofseveral weeks. A native of Mableton, he was a member of the Oakland City Baptistchurch and the John R. Wilkinson Lodge No. 432, F. & A. M. He retiredfrom business nine years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fred West; three sons, G. I.Melton, of Atlanta; G. H. Melton, of Dover, Del, and C. D. Melton, ofColumbia, S. C.; three sisters, Mrs. Emmie Landers, of Landers; Mrs.Frances Smith and Mrs. Mat Chapman, and a brother, Archie Melton, ofMableton. Funeral arrangements will be announced by H. M. Patterson and Son." On the same page as this obituary, there is a funeral notice for Mr.D. I. Melton. It's basically the same as the obit except it gives hisdeath date, Jan. 10, 1942. It also states that Mrs. Emmie Landerslives in Mableton, Ga., not Landers as the obituary above states.

Theirsecond son is George H., who is 12.
